Happy Monday, boos!! I had a quick lil’ trip to Palm Spring last week and I, of course, listened to podcasts the entire way. If you follow along on my Instagram Story, I talk about my LOVE for podcasts on the reg. Last month I asked y’all for some recommendations too, which I’ve added into my rotation.
Today, I want to discuss my top 5 and why I love each. I started listening to podcasts last year and to be honest, prior to that, I had zero interest. I just didn’t get it… My husband, Luke, would rave about them and send me episodes to listen to, and I still was not jumping on the bandwagon. You may be feeling the same way but TRUST ME, once you find ones that speak to your personality, you will be hooked!! So what made me do a 180? I found Up and Vanished… Essentially it’s a True Crime podcast (think Dateline), where a documentary filmmaker starts investigating a missing beauty queen/teacher in southern Georgia… need I say more!?
My top five faves are all over the place. They range from business, spiritual, self-help, true crime and over course girl gossip! See below for a description of each.
1. Lady Gang
This podcast is my most favorite for everyday conversations about literally everything – relationships, pop culture, hormones and more. You will come to know and LOVE the three ladies that put on the podcast once a week. They all come from different backgrounds, each with their own point of you. They are SO hilarious and V really! You’re going to be hooked!
Two of my fave episodes are…
Candace Burch Returns – they discuss everything LADY… like, hormones! It’s SO informative (March 20th, 2018)
Sammy Rosenman – Celeb assistant discusses all of the crazy things she’s had to do in Hollywood. It’s SO funny! (March 6th, 2018)
Oprah does it again!! Super Soul is THE podcast series that literally WOKE me up. I wrote about struggling through 2017 in my first post of 2018 and referenced this podcast – if you missed it, check it out here. It changed my life… literally! It allowed me to slow down and start to reflect inward. If you’re like me, you go, go and GO some more. It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day tasks of life – career, taking care of the home, errands, working out, kids (if you have them), socializing and more. Where do YOU fit into that schedule?? This podcast was the first time in years I realized it was time to do some work on myself, reprioritize my life and connect with the greater spiritual world.
I can’t say enough amazing things about Oprah’s guest – they each have much wisdom to share and I literally have an aha moment in almost every podcast. If you’re looking to connect to yourself and the world around you, this is THE podcast for you!
Here are a few of my favorite guests she’s interviewed:
Brené Brown Part 1: Daring Greatly (August 7th, 2017)
Brené Brown Part 2: Living with a Whole Heart (August 6th, 2017)
Arianna Huffington: What Will Be Your Spiritual Wake-up Call? (August 9th, 2017)
Gretchen Rubin: 8 Rules to Happiness (January 2nd, 2018)
This podcast by Dax Sheppard is a new favorite of mine. It was just launched in February of this year. He interviews all different people, mostly in Hollywood, and discusses how they got to where they are. A lot of emphasis is put on his and the guest’s childhood – hence, armchair expert… very therapy-like. He is most definitely an expert interviewer – THE best questions, diving a little deeper and allowing himself to be vulnerable. I love it and it’s become a BIG hit amongst the podcast community. If you like listening to peoples stories, you will very much enjoy his interviews!
A few of my favorite episodes…
 Zach Braff (April 2nd, 2018)
 Ashton Kutcher (February 14th, 2018)
I started listening to The Tim Ferris Show podcast because my husband, Luke, was a big fan. In Tim’s words… “I deconstruct world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, chess, pro sports, etc.), digging deep to find the tools, tactics, and tricks.” I mainly started listening to him because of specific business inspo and health pros I was interested in. Trust me, there is a wide range of topics so you are sure to find many of his podcast very interesting.
Below are a few of my faves…
The Most Curious Man in Hollywood – Brian Grazer (November 12th, 2017)
Sir Richard Branson – The Billionaire Maverick of the Virgin Empire (October 9th, 2017)
“The Ice Man” – Wim Hof (September 7th, 2015)
As I mentioned above, this podcast is True Crime and after the first episode, you’ll be hooked. I’ve listened to many others in this genre – the popular Serial, S-Town, Dirty John and more, but Up and Vanished by far is the most riveting. Note the setup is different than my other top 4 I mentioned above. You need to listen to the episodes in sequential order as they are unfolding the story week-by-week.
I hope y’all enjoy these podcasts as much as I do!! As always, comment below for questions!
